Rihanna for River Island/High Priced Hooker Gear

I read the reviews for Rihanna’s River Island collection after it debuted.  The consensus was that it was–in my Tim Gunn voice–dreadful!

Fashion is subjective, so I had to see the clothes for myself.  The reviewers were right.  With every picture, I thought, “Seriously?”

I didn’t post about it because I had nothing nice to say.  Besides, Rihanna wouldn’t be the first celebrity to “design” a bad collection.   But, as I was reading Huff Post today, I saw one of the photos from her show.

That outfit seriously hurt my eyes.  I just had to express my horror.  Some people are actually going to spend their hard earned money to buy this stuff.

Somewhere, a talented and struggling designer is cursing the celebrity worship that would lead to Rihanna “designing” and selling this:

According to the Huffington Post…

“Rihanna didn’t technically design the clothes. The singer worked with designer Adam Selman via email and phone calls and then attended fittings after samples were made, according to Vogue UK. So, um, did she even touch the fabric she draped the models in?”

So, I should blame Adam for outfit that I can’t erase from my memory?  After all, he is the real designer.

  1. I love the scene they wanted to portray…in a box but yet out of the box fashion. I must say if the clothes look cheap or below average quality, they must be worse in person. RiRi does not dress herself. She has a whole crew that helps her look like the rock star she is. When she’s not on stage she always look like she needs a makeover, so no one should be shocked about her taste in clothes. The sad part is some little girl will want this trash for Christmas. She should have paid her stylist overtime to help on her decisions. Look at the growth MK had since Nikki put him in a song. People will buy this mess just to say they own a piece of Ri. I use to find MK items on Macy’s clearance rack; now you cant even afford his stuff with out breaking the savings. It’s all about image and idolizing people. Capitalism helps to generate money from all types of garbage.
